John Montgomery Ward Inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. Played baseball in the 1800's. He was a manager for the New York Giants and the Boston Doves - which he renamed the Braves. John founded the first union for athletes and was a champion for the minorities. In 1902, he moved to Babylon where he is now buried (the only Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee buried in Suffolk County soil). He was also an avid golfer who did much to promote the game for fathers and sons.
