One of the most storied fire department racing teams in New York State history is the West Sayville Flying Dutchmen. They received the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame special recognition induction in 2011.

The Flying Dutchmen had won 11 New York State titles when they were honored with this induction in 2011. They also led New York in points 13 times from 1974 through 2011.

West Sayville was the second fire department to receive this distinction, following the Patchogue Forty Thieves in 2004.
