Suffolk County Sportsperson of the Year

The Suffolk County Sportsperson of the Year is a special recognition presented by the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame to honor an individual whose achievements represent Suffolk County at the highest levels of sport and create a defining moment of pride for the region.

Unlike traditional Hall of Fame induction, which recognizes a career’s body of work, the Sportsperson of the Year honor recognizes greatness as it happens. It celebrates championship achievement, historic milestones, leadership and the ability to inspire the next generation while shining a positive spotlight on Suffolk County.

The honor was established in 2026, with Sound Beach native and Stanley Cup champion Brandon Bussi selected as its inaugural recipient after becoming the first Suffolk County native to win the Stanley Cup as a player.

The standard is simple: when someone from Suffolk County reaches the highest levels of sport, makes history and gives our community a reason to be proud, that moment deserves to be recognized.
