Brentwood’s first New York State wrestling champion in 1968, Carl Adams had a lifetime of success on the mat. A year later, at Iowa State, he was the first freshman in school history to earn All-America honors. He was a two-time NCAA Division I champion as a wrestler and spent more than 40 seasons as a coach from 1973 to 2014, first as an assistant at his alma mater, Iowa State, two years as the head coach at Rhode Island, and then at Boston University from 1981 to 2014. His record was 306-213-1. Adams was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2019 as a “distinguished member.”
