Bjerke was an official at the national and inter-national levels for over 30 years. He judged the 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010 World Gymnastics Championships.
He is the USA Gymnastics Men’s Technical Director in charge of all judges and scores for all major events held in the USA, including the USA Championships and American Cup, the two biggest annual gymnastics events.
In 1992, he was inducted into the National Gymnastics Judges Hall of Fame and in 2005, he was inducted into the USA Gymnastics National Hall of Fame, and is also an inductee of the Iona College Athletic Hall of Fame.
He is one of only four Americans to receive the International Federation of Gymnastics Honorary Diploma, an honor he was awarded at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
One of only three Americans rated as “technical expert” by the International Federation of Gymnastics, he has officiated at dozens of top events, including the United States championships, the NCAA championships, the Goodwill Games, the Olympic trials, the Pan-American Games, and the Atlanta and Sydney Olympic games.
He taught and coached at Lindenhurst for many years.
