Known in Huntington as “Mr. Softball,” he organized the first softball league in 1938 between the Huntington fire departments called the Huntington Township Fireman’s League, which is still in existence today.

He organized over 50 softball leagues and helped create the Huntington Softball Hall of Fame in 1978.

Boccia is also a founder of the U.S. Slow Pitch Softball Association in 1973.
