Jim “Sonny” Carman was a fast-pitch pitcher for 25 years from 1940 to 1965.
He competed in the Jones Beach League for 12 years, pitching the Bellmore Sigmas to four league championships.
In the Navy, he pitched the U.S.S. Adirondack to the Naples Italy All Service League Championship in 1952, achieving a record of 12 wins and no losses.
His overall pitching records was 809 wins and 172 defeats. He went on to be an official as well as administrator in softball.
He was the Commissioner for the Metro L.I. Amateur Softball Association for more than 35 years.
