Charles Forte graduated from Huntington High School in 1956. He attended Wake Forest and signed with the New York Mets in 1961. His professional baseball career took him as far as Triple A in the International League.
In high school he was a multi-sport athlete. On the football field he was a halfback, scoring more than 140 points twice during his career. In basketball, he was a three-year starter and helped the team to county titles as a sophomore and junior. On the baseball diamond he hit .420 over four years of varsity ball and won the Quimby Award, then given to the top scholar-athlete in Suffolk County.
At Wake Forest he was an All-ACC selection in baseball and also played basketball.
After walking away from baseball due to a wrist injury, he coached and taught in Huntington for seven years prior to taking on a VP role at J.D. Posillico, a leading construction firm on Long Island.
He was also a member of the All-World Softball Team in 1969 and 1970.
