Cuban Giants HOF Plaque Presented at Historic Site

Special moment as our Executive Director Chris Vaccaro presented the New York Cuban Giants Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame induction plaque to Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino and Babylon Village Historian Jackie Marsden at the exact site where the first all black baseball team played more than 130 years ago!

The Cuban Giants is the first Historic Recognition inductee of the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame.

“Our purpose and mission is to research and recognize all generations of history and make sure we pay tribute to those who came before us,” said Vaccaro. “The New York Cuban Giants paved the way for black baseball players in the late 1800’s and we could not have picked a better inductee as the first of this special wing in our hall of fame.”

The Cuban Giants were induced at the 2019 ceremony in May, but the opportunity to present the plaque at the exact site where history was made was an added bonus to the historic recognition.
