A Central Islip native, Dawn Ellerbe specialized in the hammer throw and finished seventh at the 2000 Olympic Games. She is currently an assistant athletic director at Vanderbilt University and recently joined the Commodores after some time as an AD at Cal State Northridge. Ellerbe is an inductee of the University of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame and is on the Board of Directors for the United Way of the Midlands in Columbia, South Carolina. As a student-athlete at South Carolina, Ellerbe was a four-time NCAA champion, six-time All-American, and five-time Southeastern Conference champion. Ellerbe was also a five-time USA Indoor champion and six-time USA Outdoor champion.
