Fanelli attended Bay Shore High School. He spent nearly 40 years in the weekly newspaper business.

In 1966, he became editor of the Islip Bulletin and built it into a major community voice. He was a veteran Long Island Press sportswriter for high school sports.

He passed away in July of 1973.
