An influential visionary and leader of the Little League of the Islips for 40 years, at 90, Sonny Feinman is still cutting grass, collecting garbage and has held every title imaginable within the organization, including President
He spearheaded the acquisition of land from the LIRR and transformed a 3-field complex into a massive 18-field park, the site with the most fields in all of New York State
Along the way, he has overseen the building of a beautiful clubhouse and concession, which is the envy of all who come to play
He most recently worked with the Town of Islip to convert the 3 signature fields to beautiful artificial turf. It is no wonder some of the most prestigious Williamsport games are played here.
The entire complex has been dedicated to him, bearing his name at the entrance
His time with the org started in 1967 as a volunteer umpire, 5 years before his son could play. He managed countless teams, becoming a chain manager before ascending to the league’s president.
Sonny was also a renowned CYO basketball coach, winning county 6th-grade and high school titles. He was a trusted basketball official with Section XI until he died at the age of 70.
A Bay Shore High School graduate, Sonny was a three-sport star, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He went on to be a standout in college football.
The success of East Islip Varsity Baseball (Sal Ciampi) and Islip Varsity Baseball (Fred Biangardi) have benefited greatly from the talents they received from players developing at the Little League. The softball teams, too, have enjoyed enormous success.
