Greg Flippen attended Riverhead High School and set the New York State long jump record in 1969 at 24 feet 7.25 inches. He won 4 consecutive state champion- ships in the long jump from 1968 to 1971.
As a freshman at Texas Southern University in 1972, he suffered a hamstring injury and never fully recovered back to his top form.
He later went on to Adelphi University for the next three years to finish his education.
He was a volunteer assistant track coach at Westhampton Beach High School.
Flippen died at 60 in 2012.
