He served as the boys varsity gymnastics coach at Sachem High School for 37 years, beginning in 1969.

He had 14 county and 10 state team championships.  Ken also enjoyed a long career as a gymnastics official, at the local, regional, national and international level.

In 2015 he was also was honored with the Mastery of Sport Recognition by the National Governing Body of USA Gymnastics, the highest individual honor in this sport.

Friedheim is also an inductee of the Sachem Athletic Hall of Fame.
