Islip Wolves Fire Department Racing Team
Induction year: 2024
Location: Islip
Category: Special Recognition and Community
One of the oldest traditions within the Islip Fire Department is its participation in competitive drills.
Trophies date to 1885 and are proudly displayed in cases at the Fire Headquarters.
The Department’s drill team won its first major tournament in 1886, capturing the Suffolk County Volunteer Firemen’s Association Tournament in Patchogue.
In 1947, the team officially adopted the name “Wolves.” This name brought good luck, as the team won the Town of Islip and Suffolk County Tournaments and the New York State Championship Tournament at Catskill that year.
The “Wolves” won subsequent State Championships in 1959, 1961, 1965, 2003, 2008, 2022 and 2023.
Their back-to-back titles in recent years are a testament to support from the community, the department, and its members.
Above all, we respect their volunteerism and dedication to protecting and serving their community.
The Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame has a tradition of honoring successful FD racing teams, and we are proud to induct the Islip Wolves as our latest department to achieve this honor.
