A West Islip native, Mike Komisarek played 551 games from 2002 through 2014. He spent his career with the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Carolina Hurricanes. After two seasons with the University of Michigan, Komisarek was selected seventh overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens. During the 2007–08 season, Komisarek led the league with 227 blocked shots and finished second in hits with 266, having played only 75 games. In 2009, Komisarek played in the NHL All-Star Game, where he was named a starter. In 2017, he was hired by the Buffalo Sabers as a professional development coach and currently works for the Vancouver Canucks in player development.
