Louis Acompora received the Whitey Henrickson Lifetime Achievement Award from the Long Island Metro Lacrosse Foundation.
Aompora, a Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame inductee from Northport, NY, died on March 25, 2000, from a blow to his chest while playing lacrosse during his first high school game. He was 14.
Following Louis’ tragic death, the Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation has dedicated its mission to raising awareness among schools and other public institutions about the importance of owning automated external defibrillators. This simple device would have saved Louis’ life.
His family and friends continue to carry his legacy, and many others have been saved thanks to the foundation’s work and Louis’ legacy.
