The Golf Channel ran a feature on East Islip native Marion Hollins with a perfect headline “With hall of fame induction, may we never again forget Marion Hollins.”
You didn’t forget her, you probably just aren’t familiar. She’s a golf legend born on a farm in East Islip in 1892 and is one of the only female golf course developers in history, had a lasting impact as a visionary golf course architect and is pioneer of the game.
She was inducted to the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
