An East Islip native, Tim Melia is a professional goalkeeper for Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer. The 2015 MLS Comeback Player of the Year, he was also named Man of the Match in the U.S. Open Cup Finals that year. Melia was the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, Player of the Tournament in the U.S. Open Cup, and named to the MLS Best XI in 2017. He led Kansas City to U.S. Open Cup titles in 2015 and 2017. MLSSoccer.com named him one of the top goalies in the league in 2021 and the best at stopping penalty kicks. Tim was in season during the induction ceremony, but his mom Julia Melia, sister Jaime Lynn Hilbert, accepted the honor.
