Entered Marine Corps (1943). Participated in Iwo Jima campaigns and served in Japan and China.

Earned varsity letters in soccer (4 years), baseball (4 years). Baseball co-captain (1950). Twice selected to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.

Coached soccer, basketball, baseball, football and track on secondary level.

His varsity basketball teams won four championships in a 10-year period.

His doctoral thesis was requested by both Basketball Hall of Fame, Springfield, Mass., and National Headquarters of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials.

Mularz also served as past president, Suffolk Zone in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He was recipient of New York State Coaches Award, New York State Coaches Special Honor Award and the Physical Education Zone Achievement Award.
