Special Recognition Award

The Special Recognition Award is given to an organization or individual group that has given back to its community through sports and athletics.

Its achievements have provided a source of pride to the residents of these communities as well as all of Suffolk County.

The Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame has been recognizing these achievements at its annual induction ceremony since 2004.

  • 2004: Patchogue Fire Department Forty Thieves Racing Team

  • 2005: P.A.L. Sparklers Twirling Organization

  • 2006: Bellport High School’s Football Program

  • 2007: East Islip High School’s Baseball Program, 1928 to 2006

  • 2008: William Floyd High School’s “Colonials” Football Team, 2005-2007

  • 2009: Suffolk Community College’s Men’s Basketball Team, 2003 and 2004

  • 2010: West Islip High School’s Boys Lacrosse Program

  • 2011: West Sayville Fire Department’s Flying Dutchmen Racing Team

  • 2012: St. Anthony’s High School’s Football Program

  • 2013: Sayville High School’s Football Program

  • 2014: Title IX Girls Athletics

  • 2015: Central Islip Fire Department’s Hoboes Drill Team

  • 2016: Rich LoNigro, Port Jeff Sports

  • 2017: The Downey Family
