Former NFL official Steve Zimmer was the latest guest speaker at the Port Jeff High School sports history class as part of a partnership with the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame.
Zimmer, who worked NFL games for 25 years and officiated two Super Bowls, spoke about his journey to the league, which started more than 40 years ago at the amateur level. Students asked him about the most crucial moments of his career on the field with many of the biggest names in football history over the last quarter century.
A quarterback at Hofstra University, Zimmer considered playing pro football before being accepted into law school. He worked as a district attorney and defense attorney during his NFL career and was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.
There will be monthly guest speakers connected to the Hall of Fame, all offering deep insight into sports history, business, and media.
