John Veryzer

Veryzer graduated Sayville High School in 1939 and played basketball for LaSalle Military Academy and Manhattan College. He served in the Navy during World War II.

For 21 years (1950-71), he coached Islip’s basketball team. During his tenure, he earned a 199-19 record, nine league championships and five county championships.

He also served as the district’s athletic director for several years. He served as president for the county’s basketball association and was involved in several organizations for basketball officials, including being one of the founding members of the W.S.B.A.B.O.
