Kenny Wood’s 2,613 career points at East Hampton High School set a state public high school record.
He was Suffolk’s player of the year in 1989 – the same year he helped them win a state title – and his 31 points-per-game average in his junior year remains a Bonac record.
At Richmond, a starter on three men’s basketball post-season teams, including the 1991 squad that beat second-seeded Syracuse in the NCAA tournament, Kenny Wood scored 1427 career points.
He was on the CAA All-Rookie and All Tournament Team in 1990, earned CAA All Second Team honors in 1991 and 1992, and First Team honors his senior season in 1993, when he captained the Spiders and led the team in scoring at 16 ppg.
The four Spider teams on which he played posted an 81-40 record, with two appearances in the NCAA Tournament and one in the NIT.
Wood and his low-seeded Richmond teammates scored a huge early-round upset of Syracuse in the N.C.A.A. tournament.
He went on to play in Spain and South America after his legendary college career.
