Danny Green
Induction Year: 2024
Category: Basketball and Pro Sports
Location: North Babylon
North Babylon native and NBA veteran has one of the most impressive basketball resumes in the modern era … especially considering what he achieved in high school, college, and the NBA.
Danny is one of just four players in history to have won NBA championships with three different teams; he won titles with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, the Toronto Raptors in 2019, and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
Green spent his college basketball career at the University of North Carolina (UNC) from 2005 to 2009 and, as you can imagine, had one of the most impressive careers of anyone in school history – and some guy named Michael Jordan played there. He played in more games (145) and had more wins (123) than any Tar Heel before him. In 2009, during his senior year at UNC, Green won an NCAA championship.
The Cleveland Cavaliers selected green with the 46th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft. After being waived by the Cavaliers, Green played for the San Antonio Spurs, the Reno Bighorns of the NBA Developmental League, and KK Olimpija in Slovenia. Green became a starting guard for the Spurs during the 2011-2012 season and remained with the Spurs until 2018.
During the 2013 NBA Finals, Green set an NBA record for most three-point field goals made in a Finals series (23).
Green is just the third UNC player to win an NCAA championship and an NBA championship, the other two being James Worthy and Michael Jordan.
Green was selected for the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in the 2016–17 season because he was known for his perimeter defense.
As a freshman, Green attended North Babylon High School and later St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset.
In 2018, Green and longtime friend and sports broadcaster Harrison Sanford launched a podcast entitled “Inside the Green Room.”
