As current events in sports take place, we’re trying to relate our Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame history to tell stories about our inductees.
The Major League Baseball Draft is no stranger to names from Long Island and Suffolk County.
During the draft, we spent time tweeting out information about the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame inductees who were selected by Major League teams. There have been 16 overall, including the top overall pick in 1979 – Neal Heaton – and many other first rounders.
There is one Baseball Hall of Famer (Biggio), one College Baseball Hall of Famer (Heaton), and a handful who went from high school to the pros.
There have been 16 Suffolk Sports Hall of Famers selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. Plenty more signed as free agents and signed prior to the draft existing in 1965. In the coming hours we’ll be posting about all of them! #MLBDraft #SuffolkHOF pic.twitter.com/Zodbp39QDz
