One of the most accomplished softball players and coaches to emerge from Long Island, Kim Ryan Scavone built an outstanding career at Bay Shore High School, Boston College and throughout the collegiate coaching ranks. At Bay Shore, she was a two-time New York State Class A Player of the Year, a two-time All-American and a charter inductee into the New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame.
She continued her stellar career at Boston College, where she was a four-year starting pitcher and two-time team captain. Among the greatest pitchers in program history, she earned Big East Rookie of the Year honors in 2000 and was named Big East Pitcher of the Year in 2003. She helped lead the Eagles to a Big East regular season championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance while establishing conference strikeout records.
Following her collegiate career, she played and coached professionally in Italy, dominating the Italian Softball League with an 8-0 record, a remarkable 0.13 earned run average and a perfect game in the championship series. She helped guide Giovane Porpetto to an Italian championship, striking out 22 batters over 14 innings during the title series.
She later joined the coaching staff at Fordham University, where she helped the Rams capture their first Atlantic 10 regular-season championship and establish new program pitching standards. In 2010, she was named head softball coach at Meredith College, where she transformed the program into a perennial conference contender.
A two-time USA South Coach of the Year, she led Meredith to multiple 20-win seasons, conference championships and several record-setting campaigns. Throughout her tenure, she mentored numerous student-athletes who earned All-Conference, All-Region and national honors, helping build one of the most successful eras in the history of Meredith College softball.
